COVID 19 Update

We hope you are keeping well amidst the global response to COVID-19. We know many of you are experiencing school closures and significant disruption to your daily routines. Our thoughts are with you and the rest of our global teaching community at this challenging time.

Like the rest of the world, we’ve been closely monitoring information about COVID-19 and its spread. As the world faces this pandemic together, LRTT is especially concerned for teachers and health workers on the front line and working in vulnerable communities as they are likely to be significantly affected by the far-reaching repercussions of this global crisis.

To Prospective Fellows

We understand that you want to join the LRTT community to make an impact alongside other inspiring teachers, contributing to and learning from education in another context. We are still committed to making that happen, but not at the expense of the health of any of our Fellows, schools, or teachers.

We have been doing this work since 2011 and are focussed on creating a sustainable and long-term impact on the communities we support. To stay true to that, we must consider what action is in the best interests of our Fellows and teaching communities alike, and do everything we can to continue to support our global teaching communities in this very uncertain time.

To that end, we have implemented a new flexible Fellowship policy, so that when you apply for a Fellowship, you have full flexibility to change your Fellowship location or dates to any other Fellowship, up until 60 days before your Fellowship start date. This policy will help us support our Fellows over the next 18 months as well as our partners and teachers. It should also give you the confidence to apply for a Fellowship, knowing that if for any reason it cannot go ahead, or you want to switch location we will help you switch to an alternative Fellowship at no cost.

You can explore 2021 Fellowships here by filtering for the year 2021 and month of your availability.

We are working with our partners and will be reviewing our Fellowship offering towards the end of 2020. By that time, we hope to have a better idea of the trajectory of COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions and be able to proceed with 2021 Fellowship planning with confidence. We have designed our Flexible Fellowship policy to protect you, and enable us to help you and the teachers we work with global change and uncertainty. You can read our updated terms & conditions and our updated Flexible Fellowship policy here.

To 2020 Fellows

Since we enabled our 2020 Fellows to defer on 21st March, we’ve seen many Fellows opt to transfer to 2020. You can do this by logging into your portal here. If you transfer to 2021, and your 2020 Fellowship is not postponed, we will invite you back onto it. More information is available on the portal.

We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation as it unfolds. Please check your email for an important update that was sent on March 21st, 2020. Alternatively, you can view the contents here.

We will send further updates, as required, by email so please continue to monitor your inbox for messages from us (sometimes they get filtered into Spam or Junk folders so please check there as well). We will provide as much flexibility as we possibly can to ensure that you can still participate in a Fellowship with us. We are all dealing with unprecedented situations, so we ask for your patience, kindness, flexibility, and support during this challenging time.

We remain committed to the communities we serve

We have 1480 teachers enrolled in programs this year, working alongside 15 partner organizations. We are committed to continuing to support them in providing the best education they can to their 62,000 students. We are working hard to find ways to support them in that work throughout the year ahead.

On behalf of our entire team, we are so grateful for the opportunity to work with such extraordinary individuals, partners, and communities around the globe. We are tremendously proud of the work LRTT Fellows do and of this community that we have built together. We are grateful for your partnership in this work, and we are here to support you.

We wish you safety and good health during these uncertain times and thank you for your continued commitment, support, and flexibility.

Sincerely,

All of the LRTT Team
